Thorn Apple Country Club, a public 18-hole golf course under energized new ownership, is undergoing significant improvements aimed at elevating conditions, playability, and overall golfer experience. We are seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent who is ready to grow into the Superintendent role within the next 1–2 years as our long-tenured superintendent prepares for retirement.

Job Description

The Assistant Superintendent will work alongside the current Superintendent and ownership group to implement daily maintenance operations, support capital improvement projects, and ensure consistently high-quality playing conditions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with all facets of golf course maintenance, including daily turf care, cultural practices, irrigation management, and landscaping.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate a seasonal and full-time maintenance staff.
  • Lead and assist with chemical and fertilizer applications; maintain accurate application records.
  • Participate in planning and execution of ongoing course improvement and renovation projects.
  • Monitor course conditions, troubleshoot issues, and recommend agronomic adjustments.
  • Operate and instruct staff on safe use of turf equipment and tools.
  • Serve as acting Superintendent as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain shortly after hire).
  • Certificate or degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience, with some leadership responsibility strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of turfgrass science, irrigation repair, and golf course equipment operation.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Positive attitude with a passion for improving course conditions and advancing professionally.
